At last, tomorrow I’ll be able to plunder & pillage the Tri-Island area once more. For tomorrow marks the release of the fifth installment of the Monkey Island series, featuring the exciting adventures of wanna-be pirate Guybrush Threepwood. The new game (the first release of in total 5 episodes) will be released by Telltale Games, a gaming company that in my eyes has single handedly revived the near-dead point and click genre.
I was a ten year old when I first got to lead anti-hero Guybrush to greater glory in the Curse of Monkey Island. The situations Guybrush ended up in, were bizarre and incredibly funny. Since English isn’t my first language, so I didn’t get all the jokes, but that didn’t stop me from having a great time while I was insult banjo-dueling and swordfighting my way through the Caribean.
I’m a bit anxious to see how the new games end up. I’ll definitely try them out, but I can’t shake that nagging fear in the back of my mind that these new games will end up feeling like the Phantom Menace: being kind of cool on its own, but paling in comparison to its predecessors. Well, best way to find out is by trying I guess!
