Last weekend was a pretty eventful one, touring almost the entire Netherlands! It all started with a concert by the Killers in the Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam, which I attended with good friend Aukje. The show was pretty impressive, with fireworks accompanying the monster hits with which the Killers have conquered the world the last few years. A kind of high-resolution (for a mobile recording, anyway) can be found here.
The rest of the weekend I spent in Sneek (pronounced like the English ‘Snake’), Friesland. Sneek’s city centre is riddled with small canals and waterways, making it possible to travel around the entire city by boat, or as we did, by canoe. The tour we made was pretty impressive, judging by the aching feeling in my arms, totalling 10 kilometers. Sunday evening we attended a stand-up comedy night at a local bar. I really can’t put my finger on why it’s so painful to see someone trying to be funny, while he or she clearly isn’t. We laugh about bad performances in Idols or Britain’s got talent, but start feeling ashamed ourselves when someone is making a fool of himself, trying to be humorous. While half of the performances fell in this unfortunate category, Pieter Jouke ‘s act made up for them a great deal. His absurdistic and witty jokes catch you by surprise, making it impossible not too laugh. The return trip to Nijmegen on Monday was less fun, taking twice as long as it should. I really can’t complain though, I really had a great time the last few days!
